About the Founder

Founded on research, refined in practice

Jennifer Dorling
Role
Founder, Dorling Institute. Organisational Psychologist and performance coach.
Research
Doctoral Researcher in Psychology, Bond University, since 2021.

Jennifer Dorling is a psychology researcher, Organisational Psychologist and performance coach specialising in Mental Toughness, Psychological Capital, personality and the cognitive and psychological factors that shape human performance.

Since 2021, her doctoral research at Bond University has focused on understanding what mental toughness is, how it is experienced in demanding performance environments, and how it can be measured in a psychologically meaningful and scientifically rigorous way. This programme of research led to the development of the DMTQ30 Mental Toughness Questionnaire.

The assessment has been developed through a systematic programme of psychological research, with each stage informing the next, from the initial exploration of mental toughness through to the development and testing of the final 30-item measure.

Alongside her research, Jennifer brings more than 12 years of international experience across Australia, Germany and South Africa in organisational psychology, consulting, leadership development, change, performance and coaching. This combination of academic research and applied practice has shaped the DMTQ30 into an assessment that is intended not only to be scientifically grounded, but also clear, relevant and practical for the people using it.

The result is a mental toughness profile that helps individuals understand how they approach pressure, challenge, persistence and performance, identify their strongest areas, and recognise where further development may have the greatest value.
